TESTING OPTIONS

4-Point Cortisol

This is an at-home salivary collection used for patients complaining of feeling overly stressed, fatigued or generally “burned out.”  Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands in response to stress.  In normally functioning, healthy adrenal glands, cortisol should be significantly higher in the morning than it is at night.  Collecting multiple samples through the day allows for the analysis of a healthy cortisol curve.  Collecting via saliva decreases the discomfort of multiple invasive blood draws over the course of one day.  As well, most of the hormone is bound to protein and is therefore inactive, making salivary testing more clinically relevant.

Readjusting the cortisol curve based on individualized results can result in improved energy, sleep, blood sugar regulation and weight loss.

Amino Acid Profile

This at-home urinary collection provides great insights into the specific amino acid make-ups of individuals. It also provides an overview of overall detoxification, digestion and absorption and intestinal microflora. Based on the results, custom formulas are compounded based on exact individual needs.
This test has been most useful for patients with chief concerns of anxiety, stress and digestive complaints.

DUTCH Test

A simple at-home collection targeted at discovering hormonal imbalances leading to symptoms such as: PMS, decreased libido, weight gain, anxiety, insomnia, low affect, fatigue and more.  Hormones that are measured include: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S and cortisol.

Food Sensitivity Testing – IGE, IGG

This test involves a simple blood collection done at any Life Labs location, followed by a collection to isolate delayed reactions to reactive foods. As IgG food reactions can develop over a period of hours to days, determining specific food sensitivities can prove difficult via elimination or food journaling alone.

The notion of eliminating IgG reactive foods from the diet is gaining increasing support as a host of clinical benefits are being seen. From the alleviation of symptoms such as gas and bloating, to a decrease in the severity of certain skin ailments such as psoriasis and eczema and improvements in various gastrointestinal, inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, this stand-alone test is surely a starting point in any patient assessment.

URINARY ORGANIC ACID PROFILE

This at-home urine collection is a marquee test for any individuals dealing with blood sugar dysregulation, or those on numerous prescription medications.  Consistently elevated blood sugars produce high amounts of free radicals in the body which, in the long-run, promote further disease processes.  Certain medications are also known to induce nutrient deficiencies.  The most well-known example is that of a CoQ10 deficiency caused by the administration of a statin drug prescribed for lowering cholesterol.

This test assesses the metabolites of the cellular energy producing Krebs Cycle and isolates specific nutrient deficiencies in compromised individuals.

COMPLETE DIGESTIVE STOOL ANALYSIS

This at-home collection is an innovative stool test unlike any other.  Using DNA analysis to identify beneficial and harmful microbes in the stool, it is also an indicator of immune function as between 70%-80% of the immune system resides in the gut.  It provides information with regards to the presence of parasites, resistance to certain drugs, intensity of inflammation and the efficiency of the digestive system when it comes to the digestion and absorption of nutrients.  This test is highly indicated for those suffering from digestive ailments such as IBD or IBS, and autoimmune conditions.

URINALYSIS

This in-office urine collection provides a quick screen to assess for the presence of urinary tract infections, the pH of the urine to determine the quality of the diet, the presence of sugars, proteins or blood in the urine.  This test is included as part of an overall patient work up during an initial patient assessment.

URINARY TOXIC METALS

This two-part, at-home kit requires urinary collection both pre and post provocation with a chelating agent.  Toxic metals have the ability to accumulate in fat cells and in the bone and their accumulation over the years can be the cause of, or contribute to, a lengthy list of disease processes such as: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, various neurological conditions, and a variety of cancers.

This test is extremely useful in terms of prevention when there are strong predisposing factors or family histories of the aforementioned conditions.

ZINC TALLY

This simple and quick in-office test provides a painless and non-invasive method for evaluating zinc status in the body.  Approximately 10ml of the Zinc Tally solution are placed in the mouth and swished around for a short period of time.  A lack of taste or a delayed perception of taste are indicative of a potential zinc insufficiency.  Conversely, an immediate perception of taste is indicative of adequate zinc status.

Zinc deficiency is associated with numerous conditions such as: malabsorption syndromes, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic kidney disease and chronic liver disease.  This list is by no means exhaustive.

Zinc deficiency is also linked to symptoms of low immunity, diarrhea, allergies (both food and environmental) and dermatological disorders such as eczema, acne and psoriasis.

This test is conducted as part of a complaint oriented physical exam.
